Milk in Tea?
In 2007 a study conducted in Germany showed that adding milk may negate any health benefit associated with drinking loose leaf black teas. Loose leaf black teas reportedly provide many benefits due to the phytochemicals in the tea plant called catechins which are antioxidants.
The report states that the protein found in milk, called casein, binds to the antioxidant in tea. While bound up with the protein from the milk, your body will absorb the protein before the antioxidant can have a beneficial effect.
Want milk? If you’re drinking tea mostly for health reasons, how about trying an almond or soy milk as an alternative. If the health bennies aren’t your main concern but enjoyment of the tea is, then go for it as you like it!
